Indeed Chris, When I've talked to Chris Moore (our CIO), I was really impressed with his commitment to open data, social media, etc.

But (typical with government), we have have to educate our leaders in order to overcome the politics and fear involved with these new technologies and ideas.

As the Google saying goes(as I recall): Data is not political.

Chris - thanks, and agreed. I think it's important to share the good stories every now and then too :)

Mack:

Great post. I continue to be impressed with the forethought and leadership of our City management, IN COMPARISON to other municipalities.

I know we all can agree that there is probably much that can be done, but open-data, social media, and serous investment in web assets, are all examples of what is being done well.

I don't think they are chosen. The twenty-six individuals currently on the committee represent a number of City departments and groups, and others can join if they want to (as far as I know). Their experience with social media tools is what binds them together.
