Another Failure :(

Well not only are marks coming in, but we found out more bad news today. Our team lost the Imagine Cup. In fact, we didn’t even finish in the top three. So it is disappointing, even though we knew we didn’t have as much working as would have been ideal. The frustrating part is that we think the idea is awesome, and in the worlds, its all about idea and presentation. That is, of course, unless they do some wildly different judging scheme (which is unlikely considering the Canadian was quite similar).

Having said all that and having finished my rum and coke, I wish to repeat on this blog what I said earlier – and that’s congratulations to the winners! A fellow Student Ambassador at the University of Victoria led his team to victory, congrats Mike! There was a lot of great entries this year so I think it’s fair to say it was more competitive than last year. In any case, we’ll be ready for Imagine Cup 2005, so watch out!

And don’t think this means no more crazy programming ideas from myself or myself and Dickson or whoever. We’ll still bring it, we always do 🙂

  1. Well I don’t know. If presentation is also the criteria then I am damned. I emailed Sasha the coordinator several days before the deadline and asked him about the presentation thing. What he told me is that we don’t have to present anything for the Canadian entry, so I only submitted the readme file. (And I hate to say this….Mike’s entry has complexity and all that….but the idea isn’t that great. I don’t know about other entries…but if there is anything holding us down, presentation should be the factor…..think we should contact the judges about that?)

  2. Whether or not Mike’s idea was good, I have to admit his project was very well done in the fact it seems completed. Not only that, they spent quite a bit of time on their presentation. But at the sametime, I was very impressed with your project, Nick. It was quite graphically intensive and I was surprised not to see it in among the top 3! In either case, hope to see you in next year’s competition!

  3. I too was surprised not to see your entry in the top three Nick, it looked very impressive. Even though Mike’s team spent a lot of time on presentation, I thought your team had it pretty well done also.

I would have loved to have presented on the phone or in an IM chat or something to the judges. I think it would have made a difference for everyone.
