REVIEW: Three Recent Remakes!

Anyone notice that recently there has been a ton of remakes of old songs? Its like the music industry is running out of new things to record. Anyway, there are three recent remakes that I want to talk about. All three were originally performed by men, and have been remade by women. And just to be clear, Britney’s remake of the Rolling Stones’ “Satisfaction” was terrible.

Hilary Duff – My Generation
This song by The Who has been remade a few times, and pop tart Hilary Duff felt it was time for her to join the club. I suppose I would give her points for trying, but I really don’t like the remake. I think it sounds far too, what’s the word, mishmashed? Like she has thrown together lyrics, music, and background singers in the least smooth way possible. The rest of her CD is pretty good, especially Fly, but this song should have been cut.

Jessica Simpson – Angels
Jessica has been a busy little remaker lately. Angels is a remake of Robbie Williams’ hit song from a few years ago. I guess I’d have to say its decent, but I don’t think it is as good as her other remake – “Take My Breath Away” by Berlin. That song needed to have that 80’s synth crap removed, so good on ya Jessica.

Vanessa Carlton – Streets Have No Name
On her brand new CD entitled Harmonium (will be released November 9th), Vanessa Carlton has a remake of U2’s hit “Where The Streets Have No Name”. Compared with the above two remakes, this one is amazing. I really like the way she kept the song the same, yet improved at the same time, if thats possible. And she has an amazing voice!

So Vanessa Carlton is the winner here, with Jessica Simpson receiving honorable mention, and Hilary Duff failing. She should have stayed in school 😛
