His humor isn’t for everyone, but I rather enjoy watching Conan O’Brien. I missed the episode in which Conan debuted the “Horny Manatee”, but I did catch the next episode where he announced the website. He made up some crazy story that went something like this: because he mentioned the URL on the air, NBC was obligated to purchase the domain, and they figured they might as well make a website out of it!
Now aside from being funny, I thought this was a great comedy bit for another reason – user generated comedy. Yes, that’s a play on user generated content. Not only did Conan’s team create the website, but they invited fans to send in additional content. This does two things. First, it gets the audience and hardcore fans more involved in the show (Conan featured some of the best fan submissions). Second, it offloads some of the work (of making a funny and entertaining show) to the audience!
I don’t know where this will go, or if we’ll start to see more of these kinds of projects, but I thought it was worth mentioning anyway. I’m sure something similar has been done before, but this was the first time I really thought about it.
Oh man, I just can’t believe this. Well that’s not true, I can, I just can’t wait! Via Sharon, I got this link to the IMDB site with an entry for Old School 2! Yes, a sequel to one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. There information there is sparse, but Wikipedia has the goods:
Old School 2 is the announced sequel to Old School. This film will be made by DreamWorks SKG and will be distributed by Paramount Pictures. It is scheduled to be released some time in 2007.
That’s just the description though. The real goods are in the cast list they provide: Luke Wilson, Will Ferrell, Vince Vaughn, Jack Black, Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Steve Carrell, Elisha Cuthbert, Kathy Bates, and Christopher Walken.
Is that even possible? The Wikipedia entry has a warning that sources have not been cited, so take that list with a grain of salt, but still! That would be absolutely amazing! IMDB has the movie listed for a 2007 release. I hope it is correct.
Black van of death, Frank the tank, and all the other greatness that was Old School. Just imagine!
I wish IMDB had RSS feeds for movies, then I could easily see when the cast is updated.
I watched the premiere of Everybody Hates Chris tonight on CityTV, a show I have been looking forward to ever since I saw the teasers for it on MuchMusic a couple weeks ago. It didn’t have me rolling on the floor, laughing so hard I was crying or anything like that, but it certainly was funny.
The show follows a thirteen year old Chris Rock throughout his daily life. Tyler James Williams plays the young Chris, and Mr. Rock himself provides narration. The opening episode introduced us to his family, his neighbourhood, and his school. The laughs came mostly from Chris Rock the narrator, or from his parents, not from Chris Rock the kid, which I guess kind of surprised me.
The show wasn’t as funny as Chris Rock’s standup comedy, but I guess that’s harder to accomplish in a sitcom. Also, this episode was the first one, so there needed to be a bunch of introduction stuff. Even still, I rather enjoyed it. I’ll be watching again next week!
