Here are some Edmonton-related things I found interesting this week:
- The Edmonton Journal wrote about Twitter today, citing some statistics that I sent over yesterday. I’ll be posting the complete numbers and analysis on Monday at 11 AM. Then tune into CTV News that evening for Carrie Doll’s story on Twitter, featuring @MobileMommy and myself.
- The first Edmonton Foodie Meetup was held on Thursday evening and was a major success! It’s great to see another local online community meet one another in person. Stay tuned for Edmonton Foodie Meetup #2.
- Councillor Amarjeet Sohi wants to ban criminals from using Edmonton Transit. He was much less clear on how such enforcement would happen. Kind of silly, if you ask me.
- Speaking of oddness coming out of Council, Mayor Mandel admitted on Thursday that he may have overreacted when he spoke about banning the sale of knives.
- A group of angel investors and VCs in Alberta are hosting Alberta Entrepreneur Bootcamp from March 3rd to 5th. Registration is $250.
- Edmonton-based engineering firm Stantec became a billion dollar company last year!
- A group of local business executives called The Alberta Enterprise Group sent a letter to City Council, urging them to keep the municipal airport open.
- A new plan called Cycle Edmonton proposes spending $100 million over the next ten years to create a city-wide network of multiuse trails and bike lanes.
- The annual report on City Council members’ expenses for 2008 was posted this week.
- In case you missed it: Introducing dEdmonton – Canada’s Halloween Festival.
- IDEAfest, a new event in the vein of TED or BarCamp, is taking place at the University of Alberta on March 7th. Want to present? Sign up!
- The next Social Web Meetup takes place at 7 PM on Monday night at NAIT.
