REVIEW: Avril Lavigne's new album "Under My Skin"

Yesterday I acquired the new Avril Lavigne album entitled “Under My Skin” so I figured I should post some thoughts and opinions. First off let me say that the album won’t be released until May 25th, and you can preorder it here.

I really like the new album, it sounds great in my opinion. Granted I think it has far fewer radio-friendly tracks and that is probably a good thing as Avril transitions from singer to songwriter (yes I know she didnt write all the songs on the new album either). I would describe the overall sound as edgier than her last compilation. You can definitely hear the influences from the various producers she worked with like OLP’s Raine Maida and his wife Chantal Kreviazuk.

Aside from the heavily played “Don’t Tell Me” which I really like, my favorite songs are “Take Me Away”, “Freak Out”, “Forgotton”, and “Nobody’s Home”. I must have the Japanese release, as it includes the bonus tracks “I Always Get What I Want” and a live acoustic version of “Nobody’s Home”, both of which are pretty good.

Overall I don’t think the album will become as popular as her first one, “Let Go”, but really, what could after “Complicated”! However, if you like Avril you will definitely like this album. I’m glad she hasn’t been Britney-ized!

  1. Avril Lavigne – Under My Skin Review

Avril Lavigne appears clad in a black tutu on the cover of her new album, Under My Skin. While on first glance this looks to be nothing more than a generic album cover, further analysis will reveal a poignant insight into the psyche of Avril and the theme of the record. For, externally Avril might appear standoffish, dark, rebellious, and “anti-everything” (as portrayed by the pseudo-goth duds), beyond the media misinformation she is simply a shy, vulnerable, impassioned little girl searching for her piece of a fairytale (hence the tutu).

There are songs on Under My Skin that play to both sides of Avril. Don’t Tell Me, the first single, quite obviously fits in the former category. Co-written by Avril and her guitarist Evan Taubenfeld before Complicated was even released, Don’t Tell Me is a pro-abstinence power anthem designated as a bridge single to bring fans of Avril’s old material into her new, more mature sound. Other members of this group include the following: He Wasn’t – touted Sk8er Boi part II; Who Knows – an utterly catching song with all the markings of a radio hit; Freak Out – a divinely innocent track reminiscent of Green day; and I Always Get What I Want – Avril’s attempt at poking fun at her media image.

It is in the latter grouping of songs where the heart of the album can be found. Under My Skin opens hard and heavy with Take Me Away. This track reveals the inner conflict within a girl wanting to protect her heart from being broken, while letting her love “take her away”. Next is Avril’s personal favourite, Together. The only mot juste for describing this song is “perfect”, although perfection hardly does the song justice. It is here that Avril defines herself and establishes a sound that is distinctly hers. Another such track is Forgotten – a raging tirade that will rape you of your soul and leave you incensed, unhinged, and yet fulfilled. My Happy Ending, the second single to be released shortly, illustrates Avril’s romantic inner-self, and the failure of her partner in meeting her idealized standards. While some passion is lost in the final production of the song, this is a brilliant example of Avril’s growth since Let Go.

The four remaining songs are softer, slower, but still forceful. How Does is Feel is a subtly emotional and beautiful ballad that pulls at your heartstrings with each of its many rises and falls. Then there is Nobody’s Home – a collaboration with Ben Moody formerly of Evanescence, and a likely next single. This is the only song on Under My Skin where the subject is not Avril herself, which seems to grant Avril the freedom to create a despondent character and employ imagery beyond her usual capacity. Fall to Pieces is another romantically inclined ballad expressing Avril’s desire to keep alive the flame of a failing relationship. The album ends with a magnificently painful ode to Avril’s recently passed-on grandfather entitled Slipped Away. You can hear the tears in her voice, and anyone equipped with a heart cannot help but shed a tear at this sonorous eulogy.

Under My Skin is an emotional, dark, and rapturous creation that, in a mere 45 minutes, captures many of the thoughts we find impossible to express. In this more organic sophmore attempt, Avril proves her talents when she is given the artistic freedom to create an album free of external pressure. Those who explore the CD for themselves will be rewarded with an intelligently written and well-executed album, which is sure to become the soundtrack of a generation. As the promotional tag says, “Avril Lavigne’s Under My Skin is sure to get under yours”.

  2. Avril lavigne **rip off*** Amy Lee. No doubts about Amy Lee’s influence in Avril, starting with the way she dresses in this album and her songwriting, and a Ben Moody collaboration.
    could she be more unoriginal?

  3. fuck all you haters, avril did great on this album. let’s see you all write a fucking song. she will be richer than all of you forever so deal with the fact that SHE has talent and YOU have jealousy. Fagz.

  4. yup! avril lavinge rox man! she doesnt try to be some kind of good good gal. she’s unique. i lyk her style, being hu she is

  5. After listening to her album I must say its far better than her previous one, which I thought was so poor and so childish that I sold it for 50p to a 12 year old student. I mean she sang the one of the most annoying songs ever: Sk8er Boi….she even rapped in another song which was such a bad idea! The only decent song on that album was I’m With You, such a mature, meaningful song, well written to (of course she co-wrote it) Also the fact that she was labelled as a poser, her always over emphasizing and over stressing the point that her music was rock , which to kind of annoyed me when you can CLEARLY tell that her music is pop rock (i just hated her live cover version of chop suey, took the fucking piss) And her saying she can play the guitar, well anyone can play the guitar cos I play it myself too. All it is, is a matter of practice and walla. I do think she can play it at a basic level but not obviously at the level of e.g metallica, sweet child of mine etc. She doesn’t part with it as much…Plus, I would call her a "simple" or a "basic" musician as she does sing in her songs, play simple riffs and co-writes songs.

Anyways back to the album, this album is far better than Let Go, more maturer, way more meaningful and sounds much better…bit more rock-ish.

The first 1/2 of the album isn’t all that, as the first 6 songs sound roughly the same, not much creativity in it, reminds me of the song I’m a Mobile. Except the song Take Me Away, very good song especially the lyrics….as compared to Sk8ter Boi. Her latest single isn’t all that as I think it’s a cheap spin off of Losing Grip/Unwanted, plus her latest single has such a simple pop rock sound to it I am just wondering why did they choose to release this as a single? It just destroys what she’s really actually made of (her real talent is the last 6 songs of Under my Skin)and just pushes back down her maturity level to the Sk8er Boi, Complicated days….

The 2nd 1/2 is the best part, a bit more creativity in the songs, lyrics again much better (but obv not the best) Forgotten has to be the best song on the track, this song sounds far different and much better that any other song she has done. With a combination of piano notes at the beginning, a rocky chorus and high pitched singing….this surely makes this song one of the best by avril, it has to be a single release, and I am gonna say this song is rock. Freak Out, Who Knows and Slipped Away has some great singing (Forgotten imo has the best singing) and slightly more harder sounds than her previous songs (again good lyrics in the songs as well)

Overall this album is more darker than her "Kiddie-pop-rock" album Let Go. This album (mainly the last 6 songs) certainly dus reflect that she has matured and has experimented more into darker, meaningful songs (ie Forgotten, Slipped Away)
I do hope that she has actually stopped being all kiddie-immature-annoying-poser-brat type person, cos this album is telling me she actually at the end of tunnel and entering a new level where she would certainly be more well respected…she has earned my respect now.

    7.8/10 (Let Go 3.5/10!)

  6. First off,I’ve got to say- what an improvement!

Avril’s new/ darker/ what ever the hell it is sound is so much better than the sk8er kiddie girl avril. And its evident all the way throught this exceptional album.

She’s left behind (kind of) her radio friendly pop n rock stuff and it suites her a whole lot better.

She’s gained my respect as a songwriter. the best points on this album HAVE to be ‘Together’ and ‘Forgotten’. Thanks for a class album avril! uve redeemed urself in my eyes atleast!

  7. Thanks for the comments everyone, especially the constructive ones πŸ˜‰

I have to say I really like the acoustic version of Nobody’s Home. Avril sort of redeems herself for me on that track, because I never thought she was that great of a singer.

Has anyone heard the end of "How Does It Feel"? She sounds a lot like Chantal Kreviazuk to me! The influence is there at least.

Anyways, I really like the album, the more I listen to it, the more I like it!

  8. I think that avril lavignes new alubum `under my skin’ totally ROCKS it is well worth buying!!! i love it. It is sooooooooo much beta than the first one. the songs r just totally updated there is like so much more rock included in it.

  9. avril is like a terd hole. u know whati mean? no oh well. anyways i think she is kinda fake and she just doing the whole punk rock thing because all the other hott blondes are sexy preps who pose for playboy. shes just tryna get a freakin reputation so people will know who she is!

  10. How can you all bash Avril? You have no idea how hard she works to get where she is. You might not care for her music, but honestly people, grow up and quit bashing her like a bunch of high school kids. It aint right.

  11. first album great, this one even better, if u dont like it then its ur opinion, shes totally individual, she aint copying anyone, lets see u guys do better!!!!

  12. first album great, this one even better, if u dont like it then its ur opinion, shes totally individual, she aint copying anyone, lets see u guys do better!!!!

  13. first album great, this one even better, if u dont like it then its ur opinion, shes totally individual, she aint copying anyone, lets see u guys do better!!!!

  14. firstly I would like to tell all U Avril "haters" Fuck off!! and get A life!!, only coz u cant sing and ur jealous!! go on bugger off, "takes a deep breath"
Arils new album is truly amazing, she sounds more mature and serious in this album, her lyrics are emotional but meaningful,Dont tell me, is a great come back after the 2 years she has been recording.
This is Must get album, she has true talent.
    10/10
ps: to all u avril h8ters out there, Avril doesnt give a fuck about what u fink, so go Screw ur self!!"

  15. I can’t help but read all of your comments. So for now this comment is to all of the people who left notes lashing out at Avril. I just want you all to know that your comments are just cruel and hurtful. She is true to herself and that is saying a lot. She is part of the music business and her life is hard. It takes a strong will to stay true to yourself when the rest of the world has turned into a hip-hop pop mode. I just think that you should think twice before posting such comments. I for one would bet that people would say the same thing about you if you tried to make it in the music industry. I hope you all realize what you’re doing to people.

  16. i’m really nobody but actaly all of u r nobody.
avril is okay in her new album, it’s not bad but i wouldn’t call it the best music. it’s different from her old one, and there were a couple of good songs like Together, Who knows… and whatever. but a lot of people dont like her music so why dont u people dont listen to it why put friggen comments out why dont u just get a grip and grow up. so her music sucks that haas really nothing
to do with u. u could just listen to some other person.
she’s not a poser, she might not even want to be a punk or whatever what do u really know about her. all you know about her is fucking things that u read in the magazine. it’s the media they exaderate alot. (exp. u say u can’t to learn piano because u have a broken finger and the media writes u hate piano because it broke your finger). so how do u know she wants to be punk, maybe it’s something the media just twisted up.
if u stil think avril’s a poser why dont u just stop caring about her. she’s not that important.

  17. Ok I listened to her album again for a good 5 times. I did do a review before after listening to it once which was a bad idea but my mind has kinda changed after listening to it so I take back my previous review and replace it with this:

I have a rather peculiar view of Avril, I don’t entirely hate her nor do I like her, but I more on the hate side. I am going to be honest but the only decent songs she has ever sang is I’m With You and Forgotten, I for one think she is good at a very basic level for an under 15 audience. But she is also a very basic type of musician as she can strum a few chords, sing and write some lyrics (as you can see I just cannot stress the word basic and some). It just angers me that people say "Oh she’s a musician, she’s so talented, look at what she wears, she’s punk!" All I can say is that (I know the same old thing people have said) She is not punk (I wud love to ask her what does punk really mean) and the meaning of punk has been over shadowed by fake punk as people think fake punk is real punk, not true (just listen to real punk from the 70s i.e sex pistols) These brainwashed fans judge the genre of their music by the way they look rather than actually listening to their music. As you can see lately Avril’s new look is this ‘punk rebel, tough girl attitude.’ And you know I see the whole poser thing coming again. Remember when she first came out with the whole tank-tie thing and wearing spike bracelets people automatically thought wow, she’s punk….just look at how these people reacted to this type of manufactured punk propaganda. It looks like as if punk died ever since she arrived….kinda funny now that she’s suddenly saying I’m not punk anymore, make your mind up! I used to wear ties with tops and I just don’t wear it anymore because I am sick of people calling me an ‘Avril wannabe’ or ‘Your copying Avril.’

Now the with her new album out, I have to say yes it’s abit of an improvement but of course it would have been since she sacked ‘The Matrix’ who co-wrote some of her songs that lead to people bashing her saying that her music is pop rather than punk (she did actually say that I am ‘hardcore and punk’ and saying ‘I am not pop’) So then she hired Chantal Kreviazuk, helping her to co-write her songs plus with the help of Ben Moody as well to give this supposed ‘matured album’. Seeing the amount of help she got from professionals you can explain why she has improved and to say that she is this very basic, kindergarten level musician who gets help from pros to lead to people think she is a pro-musician when technically not. Also this album may have a bit more of a rock sound with pianos on top but doesn’t mean it has changed genres completely. Her singing and her music is more of a grown up version of the same genre (pop rock). If it was a total new sound, new genre we wouldn’t be hearing this (wud be much more of a hard sound, deep sick lyrics, screaming everything – the whole system of a down, distillers, lp thing….but of course for avril that wud be highly unlikely cos she is more manufactured than ever you know)

Now back to this whole new poser thing rising, listening to her music such as songs like ‘Freak Out’, listening to the lyrics:

Try to tell me what i shouldn’t do
    You should know by now
    I won’t listen to you
    Walk around with my hands
    Up in the air
    ‘Cause I don’t care

Young brainwashed fans have said, with her new image that "Wow, you see this girl is a true rebel now!" as I did ask 4 13 year olds. Not trying to generalise here but you can see already that a few fans think she is this new rebel with a bad ass attitude when really she is not. This song is more about lack of conformity and obedience rather than a rebellion. She is using this definition on a song that doesn’t really express a type of ‘rebellion’, more of a fake rebellion, and also to probably tell people that she wasn’t manufactured after all with this whole look and attitude and this song. I bet you she purposely stuck that middle finger up on MTV, to tell people that she is this rebel, don’t mess with me when she technically isn’t if you look at her music. She’s more of another solo-singer with a band with a side of rock; her lyrics are no different from anyone else’s, always about everyday situations: problems in relationships or loosing someone. Plus if you read all the lyrics to ‘Under my Skin’ they are pretty much basic as well, I mean just look:

Na na na na na, we’ve all got choices.
Na na na na, we’ve all got voices.
Na na na na na, stand up make some noise.
Na na na na, stand up make some noise.

I mean what ‘rocker’ (who she thinks she is) says na-na-na-na in their songs? I know for sure that a baby would J Listening to the whole album don’t think she has progressed into a darker side there, just a lack of creativity and originality in the lyrics with a just a tad more sounds experimented like a piano and abit more guitar, thas all.

If this whole manufactured punk propaganda hadn’t started then she would certainly gain a lot of respect than now. Her image reflects her attitude, genre and who she is rather than looking at her music, I mean no wonder she’s wearing black, stereotypes easily arise there. I also think that with that image she’s probably trying to promote the ‘independent feminist ideology’ but I really think it’s a pretty pathetic attempt with her saying “Guys are dumb” and her supposed ‘rude girl attitude.’ Her bashing Britney is just her again trying to tell people that she is tough and different, why does she have to boast about everything? Oh wait, another pathetic attempt to brainwash people that she’s tough and different

Avril beating people up in clubs and getting kicked out? I am extremely sceptical there, I think someone needs to ask the witnesses what really happened there, or look at the CCTV footage cos I think this another f*cked attempt to be all rude and tough (read The Times Online interview, 2nd May 2004) I gotta be honest, she is good in the pop world (I listen to a variety but mainly rock) but in the rock world is a no no for her. I just think she is out of control with this whole bad ass, punk image shit. If she is a true artist she wouldn’t bang on about what she does/trying to be/looks than actually talking about her music. I wud give her album Let Go 4/10 and Under my Skin 5/10. Her music is "ok" but her as a person and who she’s trying to portray (oppressed to portray may I say), I just dislike so much. I just think it’s all about the money really. I would like to meet her one day and give her a good lecture, making her think twice about everything.

  18. Man, shit. "My Happy Ending" is WICKED track…Can’t believe it actually gets the whole fucking situation in less that 4 minutes….lol. I wish I had the ability to do that.

  19. 21. Well it is my opinion that her first album was truly AWESOME and I did love the whole thing, and this latest album is truly AWESOME. If you want to call her basic or whatever that’s cool; All I can say is I like her style is music and I love how it sounds. I her voice, she’s quite talented. So if some of the songs sound kind of similar its cool because that’s part of her style, and sure she’ll progress even more, some will call it an improvement and what not but overall I just want to say that I’ve liked every one of her songs, and I hope she continues to be successful for at least the fans that do like and appreciate what she’s doing and giving.

"You know, sometimes you just need to be open-minded. If you like something, great! If you don’t that’s great too! Its part of what makes you who you are and no one wants to change that. Just don’t be a hater towards others’ likes and dislikes"

  29. i think avrils new album is wicked. she reminds me alot of alanis morriset n dats one reason why i like her. I think shes realy cool and i wish i was like her.

  30. *sigh* wow this is a long thread. okay, to start off, I have listened to Avril Lavigne’s new CD ‘Under My Skin’. I listened to it on ‘The Leak’ on mtv.com and I listened to the bonus tracks released on certain copies of the album.

I will whole-heartedly admit that at one point I enjoyed listening to Avril Lavigne. But basically I only listened to ‘I’m with you’ and ‘Tomorrow’ on the ‘Let Go’ album, and after listening to the new album, the only thing I can really say about it is, it’s quite confusing. If you listen to the albums back to back, there are a lot of difference, and I know she changed alot of the personalle working with her and dulled down the bubblegum, peppy..skating…thing *or whatever*, but when browsing through the album there are just times when I sat and pondered ‘What is this girl doing?’. I mean there’s such a contrast in the sound of her new songs and her old songs that one cannot simply label it as ‘maturing as an artist’. "Maturing" usually means that your music on a whole matures, and I WILL ADMIT that some of the messages in SOME of the songs are worthy of admiration, the lyrics still lack that…something. I think one of Avril’s biggest barriers is her lyrics. While catchy, they lack alot of deep content and meaning, but I will say that some of the songs that she has had a co-writer in have turned out better than the ones where she was writing solo.

I mean don’t get me wrong I do not hate this girl, but I do not enjoy her either. I mean, I am a hardcore Indie listener. I’ve basically sold my sole to the indie/emo devil, but I still remain open to music. While I do enjoy some of her music, I don’t necessarily enjoy HER.

    *here comes the image shviel*

*pause* The only real way to sum up Avril’s image and her outspoken comments is, she is very contradicting. In one YM article, the interviewer asked Avril about her image, and Avril said she was punk. While in a later article, when a second interviewer brought up the comment, Avril denied that she had said such a thing. *What makes this situation really bad is that it has happened numerous times* I mean, I’ll give the girl credit, she’s trying hard and she’s taking alot of crap from alot of people, and she MAY be staying true to ‘who she is and her music’ but it’s hard to do said action if you keep denying the words that come out of your own ‘true’ mouth. I just think that should would get a lot less backlash if she didn’t exploit herself as a ‘punk, bad girl, rebellious, nonchalant, rocker’. *sigh* Avril, my dear, dear fellow musician, how can you be rock, or punk….if your albums are located in the POP section…? I’ll admit she is DIFFERENT from other pop princesses *i.e. Brittany, Mandy, Jessica* but that doesn’t mean that she is NOT one. It just means she is different from the present stereotype, but NOT from the present pop-punk stereotype. To support this theory, please examen the clothing/lyrics/attitudes of bands such as Blink 182, *recent* Yellowcard, and New Found Glory. All have their own treasures in their music, but overall their music can fall only in the category of ‘mediocre’.
    *supporting points*
-both Avril and pop punk muscians have a tendency of displaying their..’grislyness’ by dressing in all black, baggy cloths and scowling alot
-both Avril and pop punk muscians concoct lyrics that have usually hollow meanings, or just meanings that come off to listeners as…’its a song…and…?’
-both Avril and pop punk muscians like to execute boysterous, obnoxious acts to prove how much they do not care about the opinion of society

In conclusion, think what you will. If you enjoy it, then I am delighted that you have found an artist that you can relate to/delight in their music. If you have the same opinion as me, well, ya know, what can we do guys? We can’t just make people stop buying her records and merch, so just try not to worry about it.
Avril’s got potential to BE good, but she apparently just hasn’t found it yet, she found a VEIN of it, but not all of it.

So, if you hate what I have to say, well that’s your own opinion and I respect that. But in my defense I will say two things-
#1-I do not HATE/ENVY Avril Lavigne.
#2-I myself am a musician and understand how things in ‘show business’ works. You usually have to make slight tweaks in order to not piss too many people off.

    Peace out guys

  31. WOW!! So many people trying to be in-depth. Here is a young woman trying to share her music with everyone and touch base with those who actually appreciate her understanding of life. you never know, you may just learn a thing or two from her. Kick back and relax. music is an art. Form your opinions but remember that everyone does have a voice.

  32. Look, i’m going to make this short and sweet ok? All you people who say that Avril lavigne isn’t punk, or she isn’t rock or whatever! You’re correct! Because she isn’t.
    She’s just Avril Lavigne.
    So bugger off!

  33. i think avril’s the greatest! like she is sooo cool. especially her latest album. but im really… uncool with avril beings neighbors to.. ew! brittney spears. yuck! is wat i have to say. so all of u who doesnt like avril well.. its none of my buisness, its urs. once again ill say UR THE GREATEST AVRIL LAVIGNE!!!

  34. I think that if u hate avril youv got another thing comin! She is a great artist and i cAN REALATE to most of her songs so SCREW YOU BITCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  35. I dnt now how any1 can say that avril is a load of shit, she is completely amazin!!!! She is a fab singer/songwriter and she is soooooooo talented!! every1 who says avril is a big fat turd of a poo is so wrong!!! they’re just jelous coz they no they cud neva do wot shez doin!!! they hav no life!!!

  36. I love Avrils CDs but I dont really like avril herself. She seems like a bratt, Cause I was watching a thingy on TV about her and she was freakin out cause her fans started to dress like her and she hated that. I think thats really stupid. She cant just assume that no one is going to want to be like her, dress like her. That practacly what fans do. (well some do take it a little to far) But still, she doesnt need to freak out.

  37. Hmm.. I think you are all being too criticisizing. The reason she reminds you of this artist and that artist is becaue there are SO MANY ARTIST… how many people come up to you and say OH YOU LOOK LIKE SO AND SO off of SO And So? Avril is young … 17 or 18 years old. She is still a part of a young generation that is searching for an identity. She is punk-rock. You can compare her to blink 182. The reason she’s not a pop princess is because she is real. Who wants to be compared to Brtiney Spears? I don’t… i hate britney.. she ruined her image from decent to just slutty… I think BAD when i think Britney she has catchy songs but I hate her. Avril on the other hand, doesn’t want to be a pop princess thereore she doesn’t do pop. She’s Punk-rock and the reason it’s hard to understand becuse there are so little punk rockers that are female. Females are generally softer toned therefore by comparing her to Blick 182 of course she will sing about love in a sweet way while playing hard on the guitar. She is still searching for a balance. I look up to Avril. If you listen to her music literally you won’t get her at all. I miss you is to her dead grandfather…. would you have guessed that? I looke up to Avril because she doesn’t define herself as being one way. She is Avril Lavigne…. can’t she just be that and not defined as a punk, or rock, or pop princess, or a mimic, or a copy. So what if she loves Alanis. Most people are attracted to others because they remind them of a part of themselves. Avril models herself from the Woman generation. The never giving up, stop worrying so much, don’t let guys run you down, it’s okay to fall in love, if you get hurt just move on, Freak out let it go. Of course it’s not going to be Mature music like Alanis later musical stylings because Avril is going on 18 …. Just finishing high school! How mature were you when you got out of high school? How freaking fast do you want her to grow up so she can please you? I think she has a huge influence on a whole generation of women. She doesn’t want people dressing like her because she belives in being your own person… and if someone is dreesing like her then they are not being themselves. Avril is going through real life scenarios for the first time.. the ridicule people go through in high school because of who they are (Sk8r Boi),a real heart break (Happy ending), her first up set (Nobody’s Fool), a family member dieing and trying to fogive herself for not saying good-bye (I miss you), not letting anyone take advanatage of you no matter how much you may love them (don’t tell me). She sings and writes songs about what she has experiences. Her experiences are just beginning to extend beyond high school. I’m about her age, so I can relate to the songs that sings because I go through them as well and I can understand her changes in style from song to song. I still can’t figure out if I like wearing skirts or just sitck to baggy jeans. She is still a young woman trying to discover herself. I think she is doing a damn good job is descrbing that in her music. So what if she sings punk, rock, pop, rap, country…. she is Avril Lavigne "try to tell me what i shouldn’t do you should know by now I won’t listen to you". Frankly she doesn’t give a damn about what you think her music should reflect, each songs reflects on how she was and her experience when the song was written. And in the great words of Avril "Freak out let it go."

  52. I looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove u! words cant describe how much i love u!

  53. I bought the CD and I thought it was alright. But she is definately trying to be like Amye lEE. And I must say that Amy lee has a MUCH better voice than Avril. You can tell she’s copying off of Amy because she used to be punk, now she’s wearing dresses that resemble amy’s, tries to right songs with that haunting soun, but it sound more like a halloween sound effects CD, and how she’s trying to be more rock. I’m not really dissing Avril, I love her music, but still, she said when she first came out she was being herself, but, she really isn’t.

  54. please have more concerts Avril I want to see you again in real life you;re the best ever im one of you’re biggest fans! I have so many posters of you lots of you’re c.d.s I have a movie that you are in I listen to you’re music like every day! you’re the best ever!
