Here are my weekly notes (this is probably the earliest in the day that I have ever posted them):
- Dad arrives in Edmonton tonight, and Tom tomorrow evening. It’s kinda funny actually – they come to town, and Kim and I leave! She went to Vancouver today, and I leave Thursday.
- That’s right, Northern Voice is this coming weekend! I’m excited.
- I hate unions. So much. I mostly agree with this post by Don Dodge, but I can see my teacher friends throwing a fit! Enjoy.
- Here’s my new HillaryClinton.ca podcast episode.
- Have you ever downloaded a movie? The MPAA would say you are stealing. Too bad they don’t respect copyright law either.
- I hate to admit it, but I kinda like Ashley Tisdale’s new album. I’m such a sucker for girly pop.
- Have you seen the new Coke Zero packaging? I think it’s awesome! The old style was too similar to Diet Coke. Here’s the old and new Zero cans, and the new Zero packaging.
- Live Earth? Man, Al Gore must be a damn good salesman to be able to pull this off.
I hate unions too. I belong to 2 of them. Go figure.
I’m not going to throw a fit, except to say that Steve Jobs is quite possibly the last person that should be commenting on what teachers earn.
I read some of the comments on the post about it, and from my own personal experience, the day does not end at 315. You can find me at school some days until 530 or 6, then I go home and do more work. Am I paid for it? No.
I remember asking Pike what his hourly wage was, and he figured with all the extra-curricular stuff he did, plus marking and planning, he was looking at about $7 an hour. That, my friend, is highway robbery for someone who has 6 years of university education and worlds of experience.
I detest the fact that bad teachers can’t be fired, and that good ones can’t get raises commensurate with their experience.
Good teachers can’t get monetary rewards, but there are other ways that they can get rewarded such as teaching less course(s) in a semester, sending them somewhere for pd day, etc. I completely agree that teachers need to be more accountable. Though I don’t think de-unionizing teachers is the way to go.
I had no idea who Ashley Tisdale was until she had a billion videos of herself on YouTube and I finally asked my sister who said I was "too old" to know what High School Musical is.
