More on the Amazon Kindle

Now that Amazon’s Kindle ebook reader has actually launched, there is a lot more information available out on the web. And after reading a bunch of it, I am less excited than I was yesterday. Here are a few links that may be of interest if you’re curious about the Kindle:

• More details about the Kindle from Endgadget. You can bind five or six devices to a single account.
• 15 Things I Just Learned About the Amazon Kindle from Boing Boing Gadgets. All ebooks have DRM, and PDF files are not supported. STUPID!
• The Luddite dream of Jeff Bezos from Nicholas Carr.
• Amazon Kindle Delivers Free EV-DO ‘Whispernet’ Service from Gizmodo. So there is no Wi-Fi, only EVDO. The advantage is that it works anywhere without the need to find a hotspot. The disadvantage is that it only works in the United States on Sprint. STUPID! Though CNET reports it does have Wi-Fi.
• Amazon Kindle: Hands-on first impressions from Webware. The only blogs supported are the ones on Amazon’s list, and each one will cost at least $1. STUPID!
• What I’d rather have than an eBook reader: the iPod Touchbook from Rex Hammock.

I dunno. Crippled wireless, lousy document support, DRM, a $400 price tag, and it’s still ugly. The Kindle sounds less and less impressive with each article I read.
