Here are my weekly Edmonton notes:
- It seems that the Government of Alberta is going to support Edmonton’s bid to host Expo 2017, but they haven’t provided any funding yet.
- The 22nd annual River Valley Clean Up takes place on May 3rd at 10am at Louise McKinney Park. Also check out Capital City Clean Up and the Amazing Clean Up Race.
- Ben and Jerry’s Free Cone Day Canada 2009 is Tuesday, April 21st! Visit Ben and Jerry’s in West Edmonton Mall for a free ice cream!
- ETS is holding a Community Fair in conjunction with the South LRT Grand Opening next Saturday, April 25th. The entire LRT will be free that day! The Journal wrote about the opening, and Dave Cournoyer has some photos here.
- Have you seen a Google StreetView car yet? I haven’t. The Sun wrote about the cars yesterday.
- Not really a surprise: Craig MacTavish was “relieved of his duties” as head coach of the Edmonton Oilers this week.
- The Edmonton Poetry Festival 2009 starts on Thursday, April 23rd.
- If someone calls you on the phone claiming to be a census worker, hang up and alert the police at 780.423.4567. More information here.
- Next Gen is looking for presenters for Pecha Kucha Night 4, which will take place on June 16th in conjunction with the ICLEI World Congress. Email nextgen@edmonton.ca if you’d like to submit an application.
- Homless Connect 2 is coming up next month – if you’d like to volunteer, you can find out more here.
