Here are my weekly Edmonton notes:
- The 2010 budget was announced this week and along with it, a range of proposed cuts.
- In case you missed it, I wrote about the City of Edmonton’s Social Media Advisory Committee. Very cool concept.
- Jessie Radies of Keep Edmonton Original was on CTV this week talking about shopping local first. On the topic of local, E-SAGE has a new logo for its Shop Local Guide, featuring the skyline from one of my photos!
- The Art Gallery of Alberta also launched a new logo this week. It just doesn’t do it for me. What do you think?
- Great article by Paula on the LRT debate that took place on Monday and Friday. Unfortunately, City Council decided to postpone a final decision, yet again.
- Also in the news this week was the Municipal Development Plan, known as “The Way We Grow”. Councillor Iveson remarked it should be called “The Way We Sprawl” and wrote a post explaining his position. Scott also wrote a great piece on the plan.
- The Valley Zoo has developed a new treatment plan for Lucy the elephant.
- The latest Forbes ranking of NHL franchises came out this week, and the Oilers fell four spots to #24, valued at $166 million.
- Edmonton’s bid for Expo 2017 will be going before City Council next week, but here’s a preview with comments from Mayor Mandel. Also related to Expo, a piece on South Campus.
- The City of Edmonton is working on a simple redesign to many of its website pages. Looks good!
- Our local tech community is invited to the Leveraging Technical Expertise Locally open house on Tuesday evening at City Hall (on ShareEdmonton). I wrote about it yesterday.
- Expsoure, Edmonton’s Queer Arts & Culture Festival, kicked off last night and runs through Saturday, November 21 (on ShareEdmonton).
- Our next DemoCamp is taking place on Thursday evening (on ShareEdmonton). See you there!
- Christmas on the Square Holiday Light Up runs all afternoon today (on ShareEdmonton), with the tree lighting and fireworks at 5pm! I’ll be there.
