Here are a few select updates from today’s Media Roundup:

Former journalist and current Conservative MP for Edmonton-Griesbach Kerry Diotte is “threatening a defamation suit against several people who have posted or re-posted tweets criticizing Diotte for appearing in photographs on social media with Faith Goldy, who is widely viewed as a white nationalist and recently ran unsuccessfully as a mayoral candidate in Toronto,” wrote Paula Kirman.
Benjamin Proulx’s last day as editor of the Sherwood Park News was Friday, November 9. He tweeted that he has “accepted a new opportunity outside of media.”
Julia Lipscombe’s last parenting column was published in the Edmonton Journal last week. “I’ve accepted a permanent position with my day job, CBC Edmonton,” she wrote.
The Press Gallery Podcast released its milestone 250th episode last week. They celebrated with cookies.
Boyle McCauley News will be celebrating its 40th anniversary next year. Editor Paula Kirman has announced she is working on a video project to commemorate the milestone. The expected release date is March 2019.

CBC President Catherine Tait defended her organization’s federal funding and its move online. “Making the public broadcaster smaller or weaker won’t stop the Googles and Facebooks of the world, or the spread of disinformation.”
China’s Xinhua News has unveiled a virtual newsreader “sporting a sharp suit and a somewhat robotic voice.”
At Netflix, Who Wins When It’s Hollywood vs. the Algorithm?. “As the company plunges deeper into originals, its L.A. wing is doing the once-unthinkable: overriding the metrics.”
Recode and Vox are partnering to “make Recode bigger and Vox’s coverage better.”
From the NYTimes on the White House’s removal of CNN reporter Jim Acosta’s press pass: “Reporters are in a Catch-22 situation in dealing with President Trump’s attacks: They could stage a group protest or do nothing, and both have downsides.”
