Edmonton Dining for $10

Post ImageUsually when I go for dinner, it’s to the same places as always, but every now and then it’s good to try something new – the only problem is that usually I don’t know what to try! I’ve come across a post that makes it easy though, with a list of Edmonton restaurants offering $10 dishes! From the Lex Culinaria blog:

The restaurants of Original Fare have come up with a winning recipe guaranteed to help Edmontonians top up their winter padding through the dark, cold months of January and February.

From January 22nd for 10 weeks, select Edmonton Restaurants will be offering special $10 dishes! Before you convince yourself that a $10 meal couldn’t possibly be worthwhile – some of these restaurants are my very favourites and serve some of Edmonton’s best food!

I’ve only been to two restaurants on the list – The Creperie, a long time ago, and it was very good; and Wild Tangerine, which I went to for the first time on Thursday evening, also very good. Full details are available here (pdf).

Grilled Cheese Bliss

Post ImageI should have been paying more attention a few weeks ago! August 29th was Grilled Cheese Day at Slashfood. You can still read the 31 related posts, full of recipes, ideas, and pictures of grilled cheese sandwiches. It’s enough to make you hungry!

If that wasn’t enough, I discovered that there’s actually a “Greatest Grilled Cheese Sandwich In America” competition! You can see all of the category winners and recipes at their site. Again, if you’re hungry, go eat before you visit the site. The pictures look incredibly yummy.

If grilled cheese isn’t your thing but you’re into pizza, stay tuned to Slashfood on the 26th (next Monday) as they celebrate Pizza Day!

Weekend Parties

Post ImageIt’s been a busy weekend as far as parties go! It started on Friday night as Chu (or Steven) and Michelle had a dinner to celebrate their birthdays, both of which are in September. It was a relatively small gathering, but it was really good! Michelle made almost all of the food, which was very good. May brought an ice cream cake from DQ that was delicious. Good times! You can see some pictures here.

Last night was Yi-Li’s summer BBQ. It was also a “going away” party for Ylz, who left for a four month job in Rainbow Lake today. We had hamburgers, hot dogs, and some amazing steak. We also played Bingo and Cranium, and somehow figured out a game of paper-rock-scissors challenges to finish off the melted green tea ice cream cake (that was a disgusting green goop). Dickson played piano for a while as everyone just kinda relaxed. Here are the pictures. Have fun “up north” Ylz!

Cooking for Engineers

Since we all know engineers are special people, who require special classes like their own version of English, it should be no surprise that there is a cooking website devoted to engineers. Cooking for Engineers says “Have an analytical mind? Like to cook? This is the site to read!” And from the comments on the MetaFilter post, be sure to check out Cook’s Illustrated too.
