Here are my weekly notes:

• Dad arrived in town today to pick up his new Pilot. Will be good to see him for a couple days!
• Sharon and I spoke at the Narratives of Citizenship conference today at the University of Alberta. Specifically, we were part of the community education roundtable.
• For all the advances with gadgets we’ve seen in recent years, batteries still pretty much suck. Now though, some researchers have come up with a flexible, see-through battery. Looks interesting!
• This morphable model of 3D faces is incredible. Watch the entire video, it’s worth it.
• Who created the “Hillary 1984” video? Arianna Huffington found out. Speaking of Hillary, I didn’t get my podcast done this week, which means I’ll have to do something special for next week!
• For all you gamers out there, looks like New Line will be producing a “Gears of War” movie.
• I bought my first Moleskine notebook on Thursday, but that’s another post for another day.

• I was chosen as the blog of the week in my dad’s regular weekly post. Thanks!
• CBC Radio recently announced new logos. They are okay, but I don’t like that they are so inconsistent.
• Couple neat new features from Yahoo! properties – del.icio.us added tag descriptions, and Flickr added collections (or sets of sets).
• Apparently this winter has been the world’s warmest on record.
• Mr. Awesome brings word that Halo 3 will be offered in three different versions when it launches later this year. I think the middle one looks good.
• Will Heineken be the next Starbucks? They have an interesting plan to launch retail outlets around the world, starting with airports.
• I’m not much of a tea drinker, but I have been enjoying Tazo Awake lately (thanks Dad for leaving the box at my place). It’s growing on me.
• Here’s a unique twist on the backyard hockey rink – a backyard curling rink! Only in Alberta.
• The new Formula 1 season started this weekend with the first race in Australia…sans Michael Schumacher. It was kind of like he never left though, with Kimi Raikkonen scampering off into the distance in the Ferrari. It was a Schumi-esque win.

Here are my weekly notes:

• I was at Blockbuster today and noticed that they are already taking pre-orders for Halo 3, which doesn’t come out til November. Price was $79.99 with a $10 deposit required.
• Eric Rice did something interesting recently – he posted an introduction message on his blog, despite being a blogger for years. He posted it as a kind of “new reader orientation.” Neat idea, I might copy that!
• I went for brunch with Sharon today to Barb & Ernie’s Old Country Inn here in Edmonton. It was quite tasty, if a little cramped. Ernie is quite a character! We also wandered around the Art Gallery’s Free For All event – pictures here.
• Interesting post on caffeine…it’s something I should learn more about.
• Has Twitter tipped the tuna? Ross Mayfield thinks so.
• Went to see 300 on Friday with a bunch of people…I left impressed! It’s not for everyone, but I rather enjoyed it. Speaking of movies, here’s the 100 worst of the worst according to Rotten Tomatoes.
• The U-Pass referendum passed at the University of Alberta with 84% voting yes.

Here are my weekly notes:

• I really like Saliva’s new song “Ladies And Gentleman.” It could easily be used in a car commercial or something. I also like Taylor Swift’s “Tim McGraw” which is pretty much the complete opposite of Saliva’s track.
• I thought Jay Leno wanted to retire? This article suggests he doesn’t, and that Fox might be trying to court him.
• The student paper at the University of Alberta, The Gateway, has a new website. It doesn’t work properly in Internet Explorer 7, nor in Opera 9. It also seems to be missing content…let’s hope they are working on it!
• Spider-Man 3 on Heroes?! Sort of. A never-before-seen clip will air during tomorrow’s broadcast of Heroes on NBC. And after the episode, NBC.com will stream a seven and a half minute scene from the movie.
• “Does what happens in the Facebook stay in the Facebook?” Intriguing video.

• Dickson, Sharon and I went to Bridges in Granville Island tonight for dinner, and we met up with Robert Sanzalone. It was good!
• One of the “bigger” news stories this week was the planned merger of XM and Sirius. Does anyone care?
• Hillary has a blog! I didn’t get a chance to do my weekly podcast today…I might do it tomorrow.
• I haven’t opened my aggregator in days…I feel so out of the loop!
• I also don’t really want to go home yet! Damn midterm on Wednesday evening.

• Dad arrives in Edmonton tonight, and Tom tomorrow evening. It’s kinda funny actually – they come to town, and Kim and I leave! She went to Vancouver today, and I leave Thursday.
• That’s right, Northern Voice is this coming weekend! I’m excited.
• I hate unions. So much. I mostly agree with this post by Don Dodge, but I can see my teacher friends throwing a fit! Enjoy.

• Have you ever downloaded a movie? The MPAA would say you are stealing. Too bad they don’t respect copyright law either.
• I hate to admit it, but I kinda like Ashley Tisdale’s new album. I’m such a sucker for girly pop.
• Have you seen the new Coke Zero packaging? I think it’s awesome! The old style was too similar to Diet Coke. Here’s the old and new Zero cans, and the new Zero packaging.
• Live Earth? Man, Al Gore must be a damn good salesman to be able to pull this off.

Here are my weekly notes:

• The third episode of my Hillary Clinton podcast is up. One of the big stories this week, obviously, was Obama officially entering the race. There’s lots of chatter in the blogosphere about it.
• Wow, an 80-core processor from Intel? Sign me up!
• For those of you in Edmonton, Megan and I are planning to go see Ghost Rider on Friday (late show prolly). Let us know if you wanna come! And yes, I realize that lots of comic book movies suck, but come on! It’s Nic Cage! It can’t be that bad right?!
• Apparently 62 The Source by Circuit City stores will be closing across Canada.
• Quantum computing already? I find it hard to believe, but a Canadian company claims it will make history by demonstrating just such a computer on Tuesday. I’m not holding my breath (but how cool would it be if it’s all legit!!).
• I think it’s hilarious that the author of this article at CNET News.com calls Microsoft an “old foe” of Google. Yes…because Google has been around for so long.

I’ve been listening to the wonderful album A Beautiful Lie by 30 Seconds To Mars a lot lately. I originally got it because of the song The Kill, but I guess you could say I have rediscovered the entire album recently. You’ve probably hear their other single, From Yesterday, on the radio. Good stuff.

Here are my weekly notes:

• I watched the Super Bowl this afternoon like millions of other people around the world. Still haven’t watched the commercials yet. I’m glad the Colts won, and that Peyton Manning was named MVP.
• Apparently Consumer Reports did a “taste test” and found that McDonald’s coffee beats Starbucks. Read the comments in that post…they are enlightening.
• Another episode of my HillaryClinton.ca podcast is up!
• A big story this week was the new report on global warming. The scientists agree something bad is happening and that something has to be done. I’m much more confident than most that it’s a problem that will be solved by technology (including so-called soft technology) we haven’t yet invented. The doomsday crowd makes me laugh – never underestimate human ingenuity.
• CBS has started podcasting full length episodes of the news with Katie Couric. Excellent!
• A few very vocal users are upset about some changes being made at Flickr. I don’t see what the big deal is – I mean, doesn’t everyone have an account from GYM? I started signing into Flickr using my Yahoo account the day it became possible to do so.
• Is Apple really going to be bigger than Microsoft in 2010? I highly doubt it.
• Good job snoozing during the State of the Union address, John McCain. What a moron.

• I’m giving a talk tomorrow night on podcasting to students taking a fourth year e-marketing course at the University of Alberta. Should be fun!
• I’ve praised Office 2007 in the past (minus Outlook 2007) but it’s worth doing again. The new Word, Excel, and PowerPoint versions are amazing. Believe it or not, using them is fun! If you haven’t had a chance to try them, you’re missing out.
• Here’s an interesting post from the writer of the Elk Cloner virus – the first known computer virus that spread “in the wild.”
• Looking for a new blog to read? Check out It’s a Rich, Full Life. The blog is written by Chris LaBossiere of ProTraining.com, the guys that won VenturePrize last year.
• If you’re under 25 years of age and are interested in video, why not join UNICEF’s one-minute video contest? The deadline is March 30th, 2007.
• Sir Richard Branson is launching a Virgin-branded stem-cell storage company. Parents will be able to put the umbilical blood of their newborn into cold storage. If I was having kids, I’d do it. Who knows what magic the scientists will come up with in the future!
• This is nuts…a 23 foot long python swallowed at least 11 guard dogs protecting a fruit orchard in Malaysia before being discovered.
